Focusing this collection of sermons on the Second Reading during Advent, Christmas and Epiphany, Scott Bryte and Kimberly Miller van Driel deftly relate the struggles, the doubts, and uncertainties of the modern Christian.

Amidst recent events such as the coronavirus pandemic, life seems to be on a steady path toward change. Although change can be frightening, the authors reassure us that God has not abandoned us — and never will.

This book was written for use by pastors and others looking for more in-depth study of scripture. It explores God’s motives for sending Jesus to live a mortal life, to teach us to love one another, and eventually, to die for our sins. Through these actions, God has forever made all humans blessed through Jesus.

Know that God was born for you, lived for you, died for you, and rose for you. Know that God cannot bear to leave you. Know that God is always with you.

Scott A. Bryte received his M.Div. from Lutheran Theological Seminary at Gettysburg and currently serves at Berkeley Hills Lutheran Church, just outside of Pittsburgh, PA. He and his wife Kathleen have two grown children and a fairly smart dog. He is also a ventriloquist, cartoonist, woodcarver, oil painter, portraitist, puppeteer, and puppet builder; all of which he is convinced can be put to use in proclamation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Kimberly Miller van Driel is married to the Rev. Dr. Edwin van Dreil, who teaches systematic theology at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary. Kim received her M.Div. from Yale Divinity School in 2003, and currently serves at First English Lutheran Church in Butler, PA. They have two children between them; Christian (13) and Claudia (10).
