This book is NOT a "how-to" text. It makes a unique contribution to the literature on preaching because of the way it brings a lifetime of preaching to bear on the challenges faced by all those who stand in contemporary pulpits.

It is written by a man who loved every part of being a minister, who left a law career to enter the ministry.

This inspirational volume was completed in the final two months of Jim Angell's life as he lay dying of cancer. He authored 14 books. His brilliance was recognized when he received the Fleming H. Revell Award in 1969 for the most promising work by a new religious author. The book that was closest to his heart was O Susan!, the account of the death of his daughter in an automobile accident during her senior year at Pomona College.

Jim Angell is one of America's premier preachers, the kind of platform communicator one can truly call a prince of the pulpit.

Jim Angell was a man of profound faith, great integrity, a zest for life, a way with words that brought eternity to your doorstep, and an abiding commitment to the world and to the Church.
Bear Ride Scott in The Presbyterian Writer, Winter 1993

Trained as a lawyer, James Angell served on the Presbyterian judiciary from 1983 until 1988. He understood the controversies that threaten the church today. He ministered to seven congregations, from First Presbyterian in Indianola, Iowa to the Madison Avenue Church in New York City.

He understood the dilemmas individuals face, and specialized in making the Christian faith relevant to contemporary living.
