The playwright has successfully taken some parts of the great novel Les Miserables and with some changes has dramatized them -- that is, intensified these parts into the dramatic form of "The Golden Gift."

In The Bells Of Christmas Eve, Henry Scholberg has put into dramatic form a moving story of the goodness and evil that men sometimes experience. The play moves with felt certainty as does "The Golden Gift."

The Bells of Christmas Eve takes place in Italy in 1520. In the final moment of the play, the bells ring -- it is a miracle. Speaking parts for 8 persons. Performance time about 30 minutes. Church bells should ring as sound effects at the play's end.

The Golden Gift is set in France in 1820. The story is based on a scene from Les Miserables by Victor Hugo. It includes the familiar story of the ex-convict and the good bishop. The ex-convict takes the golden candlesticks. Parts for 10 persons. Performance time is about 30 minutes.

Henry Scholberg, St. Paul, Minnesota, is an award-winning playwright and actor. Born in India to a Methodist missionary couple, he brings a global sense of fellowship and understanding to his writing. He has written and directed many religious plays for his congregation, community theater, and television.
